Week 3 - Function of the Church

I’m Added… Now What!!! (Matt. 28:16-20); 1 Cor. 12:12-27

Last week our study led us to Ephesians 3:1-13. It’s in that passage of scripture where the Apostle Paul eloquently shares with the church at Ephesus and in particularly the Gentile saints of the “mystery” made known to him by revelation. It was mysterious in the sense that it was not made known to people in other or previous generations as it has been now revealed to him by the Spirit. The mystery that Paul shared was that through the Gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. Also, that God’s intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to His eternal purpose that He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Church is Significant!!! The Church is Needed!!! And the Church has a PURPOSE!!!

So where do I fit? And how do I function in the grand scheme of this magnificent institution?

This morning I want us to look at and discuss the Function of the church? We will observe in detail how God adds you to His church? Why God places you with a local church? And what’s expected of you as a member of His church? Let’s take a look at his from Matt. 28:16-20 and 1 Cor. 12:12-27.

Sadly, the majority of those who claim to be saved cannot answer the question of what they have been saved from! Even more frightening is when they discover that answer, they have no clue as to what they are saved for (Eph. 2:10)! Every child of God must understand that when God adds you to the Church, He expects for you to function as a member of the Church!

So this morning let’s entertain these five subjects:

· What is biblical Repentance and Baptism?

· What is the Local church?

· Serving in a “Ministry”

· Growing in “Community”

· Giving generously

I pray that this study will give you a clearer understanding of your function as a Member of the Body of Christ! In particularly the local church. Your connection is imperative to the health and growth of this church!!!!

Week 2 - Purpose of the Church

A Much Bigger Deal Than You Realize (Eph. 3:1-13) Last week our study led us to Matthew 16:13-20. It’s in that passage of scripture where we find Jesus’ promise to “Build His Church”. We also discusse
